Forensic Fridays is a new feature at the Calgary Police Discovery Centre that brings forensic science to life through weekly digital videos and upcoming in‑person events, programs, and pop‑up activities. Each video is hosted by our Forensic Program Specialist, Lexis Gandica, who guides viewers through real investigative techniques used in modern policing.
If you enjoy learning how clues are found, how evidence is examined, or how science helps solve cases, Forensic Fridays is designed for you. The series introduces clear, engaging forensic topics for teens, adults, and anyone with a curious mind. New content will appear throughout the season, along with hands‑on experiences inside the Centre inspired by the videos.
Meet Lexis Gandica
Forensic Program Specialist
Hello, my name is Lexis, and I am a Venezuelan journalist whose career took an unexpected turn into the fascinating world of forensic science.
As a crime reporter, I covered some significant criminal cases in my country. My work took me inside morgues, where I reported on homicide investigations, interviewed detainees during prison riots, and accompanied
police patrols in high-risk areas. Those experiences gave me a firsthand understanding of criminal investigations and inspired me to pursue a
career in forensic science.
Driven by curiosity and a desire to deepen my expertise, I began with two specialized certificate programs before completing a comprehensive forensic science program and earning a diploma and a master’s degree. I also completed a certificate in forensic psychiatry, expanding my understanding of criminal behavior and the psychological aspects of crime.
I later had the privilege of working as a forensic photographer, documenting crime scenes, autopsies, and exhumations. Although demanding, this role reinforced my appreciation for the precision,
objectivity, and attention to detail that forensic investigations require.
In recent years, I have worked at the Calgary Police Discovery Centre, where I have had the opportunity to educate hundreds of children and community members about crime prevention while designing engaging forensic science programs for audiences of all ages.
My commitment to forensic science continues to grow with every new
experience. I believe that as crime evolves, so must those dedicated to
understanding and investigating it. That belief drives my passion for
lifelong learning and my commitment to sharing forensic science in ways
that educate, inspire, and make a positive impact.
